The job of the ready mix concrete truck operator was established for the purpose of delivering ready mix concrete to customer job sites. It involves the safe and efficient transport of ready mix concrete from batch plants to customer jobsites and the unloading of ready mix concrete per customer specifications.

This position reports directly to the ready mix dispatcher.

  • General Ready Mix Functions
    Main Activities
    • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with customers and other employees while acting professionally
    • Assist customers with inquiries and information requests to resolve issues with customers
    • Deliver ready mix concrete to customers’ jobsites
    • Perform daily safety inspections, truck maintenance and cleaning
    • Maintain drivers daily reports as required by DOT and company regulations
    • Perform other duties as assigned by management
  • Essential Functions
    Main Activities
    • Perform pre-trip vehicle safety inspection and report vehicle condition
    • Check all fluid levels daily and add fluids if necessary
    • Fuel assigned vehicle as needed
    • Communicate with dispatcher/operations manager and receive instructions via two-way radio in truck
    • Obtain receipts and signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required
    • Responsible for cleaning the outside of assigned vehicle to ensure absence of concrete build-up throughout each shift
    • Maintain inside of drum using chipping hammer to remove excessive concrete build-up

    Skills are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: attending safety meetings as required, taking initiative to go beyond what may be asked and to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.

  • Working Environment

    The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:  lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling and crouching and/or crawling. Generally, the job requires 40 percent sitting/driving, 20 percent walking, 30 percent standing, 10 percent climbing. This job is performed mostly outdoors or at the company facilities in a safe and healthy environment.

    This position requires long hours of driving or standing. The incumbent must also be prepared to spend time cleaning and washing assigned truck in order to prepare for future deliveries.

    There are a number of different jobsites. The incumbent must be able to deal with a wide variety of people on various issues and working conditions.

    The incumbent is located at a ready mix facility, time spent mostly outdoors and performing multiple tasks as required.
